Odyssey Charter School Timeline
Important accomplishments in the history of Odyssey Charter School include:
Founded May 25, 1999 in a church building. Odyssey opened with 112 Kindergarten through 6th grade students.
First grade from the State of Florida was an A+. Odyssey was one of 15.5% of Florida public schools that made the State’s highest grading system for school success: Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Odyssey has continued to be a consistently high performing school as measured by the FLDOE annually.
First charter school in Brevard County to be awarded a 10-year contract renewal based upon exemplary academic programming and fiscal management.
Odyssey received a million dollar land grant from Bayside Lakes Development to move the School six miles south to Bayside Lakes.
Odyssey grows from original 112 students to 510 Kindergarten through 8th grade students in Florida’s first “green” public school building.
Odyssey becomes the first and only charter school in the State of Florida to receive educational impact fee dollars from the Brevard County Commission.
Odyssey’s academic ranking is reported in the top 5.3% of combination K-8 schools. Odyssey was identified as13th in performance out of 244 public schools.
One of 22 finalists in the Bill Gates Charter School Growth Fund Replication Grant.
Energy Star Building Award Recognition for utilizing 30% less energy and for spending 70% less on energy bills than conventional Florida schools.
Odyssey was named as a Governor’s Serve to Preserve “Green” School Award Winner
Grand Opening of 10,000 square foot addition with computer labs, classrooms and indoor gym.
Odyssey became fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Odyssey was awarded the High Performing Charter School status by the Florida Department of Education.
Grand Opening of the Odyssey Junior/Senior High School – Upper Campus.
