News from the Media Center
We have two fun summer reading programs for all ages. For our younger students, Barnes & Noble's program is to read 8 books of your own choosing during the summer. Simply fill out the Summer Reading Journal (I have some for them to fill out. You may pick up a journal at Barnes and Noble if you didn't get one.) Then simply take the journal to Barnes & Noble and you get to pick a free book!
For our older and more mobile students, the Brevard Public Libraries have a program called "Ride to Read." If you have a Brevard Public Library card, show it and you can ride the SCAT buses FREE all summer anywhere in the county.
I have the flyers to both of these summer reading programs in the Media Center and will have them at the office front desk for anyone to pick up.
Make your summer count: Keep on reading!

Middle School P.E.
The last few weeks have been some good ones. As a part of the exam grade,
students have had to hold the responsibility of teaching the class for a
whole period. This is worth 10% of the final grade and many students have
done extremely well, even bringing forth a couple of games that I have now
included in my repertoire. A big favorite of many students was capture the
football, but we've had students teach anything from basketball to matball
(kickball). Again, it has been very exciting, not only to see the variety of
games students bring to the table, but also the responsibility and
leadership that was expressed throughout the entire process. Other than
that, we have finished up our Governor's Challenge of Physical Fitness with
many students improving their scores in many different assessments,
including broad jump, 40 yard dash, pro agility drill, 300 yard shuttle run,
and the sit and reach. And lastly, we finished off the year with our field
day, where students were able to enjoy the entire day on our brand new
field, playing sports and enjoying the company of friends. Many students did
take it upon themselves to get the teachers wet by pouring water bottles on
them. But lo and behold, the teachers did come out on top by having them
pose for a picture in the middle of the field...then turning on the
sprinklers. So, although it is quite sad to see students move on, I am very
pleased with all that was accomplished these last couple of weeks.
