Our 6th through 8th grade gifted students are working on service learning this semester. This is experiential learning that helps build character and motivation. We spend our team meetings working on activities and having discussions related to different aspects of character and motivation. Our recent focus was on communication and what we need for communication to be most effective. We will also be working on ‘thinking outside the box’ or lateral thinking activities.
The 4th through 5th graders are deeply involved in working toward the Future Problem Solving Competition which is coming up in February. Information about Future Problem Solving was sent home a couple weeks ago but more info will be coming this week in case anyone has questions about the program or the competition.
The 2nd grade team is a great group of kids who are excited about working advanced math (Sunshine Math) and honing their creative thinking skills through Stories With Holes and other brain teasers. For their community service project they have chosen to plant a garden to help supplement food pantries that serve homeless and other less fortunate people.
